Privacy Policy

Written in plain English, because a policy nobody can read protects nobody.

The Short Version

We do not run analytics. We do not run ad trackers. There is nothing here for you to sign up for: no visitor accounts, no member area, and no forms that collect your information. A few of us who run the group sign in to a private area to keep the site updated, and the public cannot register for it. We do not sell or share anything, because we do not have anything to sell or share. If you email us, we have your email. That is about it.

Who We Are

The East Texas Bitcoin Community is a local meetup group. This website exists to tell people when we gather and to point newcomers toward material worth reading. It is run by community members, not a company. This policy covers easttexasbitcoincommunity.com and nothing else.

What We Collect Directly

Nothing automatically. There is no signup here for visitors, no member accounts, and no contact form. Browsing this site does not create a record tied to you.

Organizers sign in, you do not. Behind the scenes there is a private, password-protected area where a few of us post meetup dates and keep the site current. It is not open to the public and there is nothing to register for. What it holds is our own content, not information about you.

Email, if you send one. Our address is listed on the contact page. If you write to us, we have your message and your address, the same as any email. We keep it so we can answer you and so we remember the conversation later. We do not add you to any list, because we do not have one.

Analytics and Tracking

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook pixels, or any similar tracking service. Nothing on this site is trying to follow you around the internet.

If that ever changes, this section will say so plainly and the date at the top of this page will change with it.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies for visitors. The only one it ever sets is a sign-in cookie for an organizer working in that private area, and all it does is keep that person signed in.

Some links here are affiliate links, mostly to Amazon. If you click one, that company may set a cookie in your browser so they can tell the sale came from us. That cookie belongs to them and is governed by their privacy policy, not ours. Not clicking the link means no cookie. There is more detail on our affiliate disclosure page.

Third Parties Your Browser Talks To

A few things on this site load from elsewhere, which means your browser makes a request to those companies and they can see your IP address. Being straight about it:

  • Google Fonts. The typefaces on this site load from Google's servers.
  • Hostinger. Our web host. Like nearly all hosts, their servers keep standard access logs including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. We do not review these for marketing.
  • Square. A store is planned but it is not open yet, so there is nothing to buy here today and nothing being charged. When it does open, Square will handle the checkout and the payment, your card details will not touch our server, and Square's privacy policy will govern that transaction.
  • Luma. Our meetups are listed there and RSVPs are handled there. When you open a meetup's details on this site, we load Luma's RSVP code onto the page so you can reply without leaving, and at that point your browser is talking to Luma and they can see your IP address. Nothing loads until you open a meetup, and we do not send them anything about you. What you type into the RSVP box goes to Luma and their policy governs it.
  • Facebook. Our page lives there and some meetups are posted there. Those are ordinary links. Once you click through, you are on their turf and their policies apply.
  • Bitcoin Magazine. Our news page pulls headlines from their public feed. That request comes from our server, not your browser, so they do not see you.

Payments

Nothing on this site takes a payment today. The store is planned and currently switched off, so there is no checkout to go through.

When it does open, purchases will go through Square. We will see that an order happened and what was ordered. We will not see your card. We do not process, store, or ever see payment information, and that does not change when the store opens.

Email Lists

We do not currently run a mailing list. If we add one, it will be something you opt into on purpose, with a working unsubscribe link in every message, and this section will be updated to name the service handling it.

Children

This site is meant for adults and we do not knowingly collect anything from children under 13. Young people are welcome at our meetups with a parent, but the website is not built to gather information from anyone.

Your Choices

Because we hold so little, there is not much to request. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, ask and we will delete it. If you are somewhere with laws granting you specific rights over your data, write to us and we will honor them. Nobody has to prove where they live to get a straight answer from us.

Security

This site runs over HTTPS. Beyond that, the strongest security measure we have is that we do not collect much worth stealing. No system is perfectly secure, and we would rather say that than promise otherwise.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Meaningful changes, particularly anything involving new tracking or data collection, will be described in plain language rather than buried.

One Last Thing

Nothing on this website is financial, legal, or tax advice. We are a group of people who meet up and talk about Bitcoin. What you do with your money is yours to decide.
